About

One of the greatest composers of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was most comfortable writing operas. During his short life of 36 years he wrote 18 operas, not counting unfinished works. Mozart was an innovator of the genre. His operas did not include stereotypical roles or plot twists embedded in the opera tradition. The composer created protagonists that were full of psychological realism, while the stories woven around the brilliantly composed music consisted of many threads, while discussing morality and commenting the social and political situation of the time. One of the strongest features of Mozart’s operas, however, is a very tight link between the action onstage and the music, so that the whole is perfectly fitted mosaic. Mozart created unique masterpieces which continue to fascinate new generations of listeners.
