This concert will provide us with an opportunity to hear music from Spain and South America. We will visit Spain with Luigi Boccherini and his arrangement of a folk dance – the fandango. We will also hear the song Calcerelas (Spanish: Women Guardians) in an arrangement by Ruperto Chapí and a work by Spanish guitarist-composer Francisco Tárrega – Gran Jota. There will also be a song by 20th century Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo – Adela. Our travels will also take us to Brazil, where we will hear the Bachianas Brasileiras suite by Heitor Villa-Lobos – an arrangement of Brazilian music with clear influence from Johann Sebastian Bach. The programme of “Travel Diaries” also includes tango nuevo, styled after the original Argentinian dances. In this genre we will listen to pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Julián Plaza.
