About

The title of the event is a reference to Astor Piazzolla’s famous work L’histoire du Tango, which we will have an opportunity to hear during the concert. As a composer, Piazzolla created the style of tango nuevo – an amalgam of Argentinian tango, jazz and elements of the style of Johann Sebastian Bach, with whose works Piazzolla became familiar before he took up studies with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. The Argentinian composer’s musical language is so recognizable that it becomes apparent even in works that seemingly have nothing in common with the tango, such as Ave Maria. Piazzolla is not the only composer to write tangos. They were also composed by such composers as Julián Plaza, Jorge Cardoso, Enrique Dalfino and Francisco Tarrega.
