Jakub Haufa


Concertmaster of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, habilitated doctor, Professor at the Music Academy in Poznań.

Born in Poznań, he graduated from the violin class of prof. Jadwiga Kaliszewska, a versatile violinist with rich phonographic and concert achievements, a laureate of many national and international competitions. Winner honorable mentions in the final of the XII International Violin Competition Henryk Wieniawski in Poznań (2001). Since 2003, he is the first concertmaster of the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra, with which he has also repeatedly performed as a soloist with such artists as: Krzysztof Penderecki, Alexander Sladkovsky, Jacek Kaspszyk or Jerzy Maksymiuk, Marc Minkowski, Nigel Kennedy, Stefan Dohr, Albrecht Mayer, Daniel Hope. As a concertmaster, he led the orchestra under the baton of such conductors as: Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev, Leonard Slatkin, Christoph Eschenbach, Krzysztof Penderecki, Jerzy Semkow, Lawrence Foster, Marek Janowski, Andrey Boreyko, Leopold Hager, Sylvain Camberling, Hubert Soudant, Alexander Sladkovsky, Robert Trevino etc. He recorded as both concertmaster and soloist, incl. for record labels such as Deutsche Grammophon (with Albrecht Mayer – CD / DVD New Seasons), EMI (with Nigel Kennedy – DVD Live at Carcassonne). He also appeared with Nigel Kennedy as a co-soloist with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and with “Das Collegium” with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 2016, as a soloist, he made the premiere recording of the version for violin and cello Concerto doppio by Krzysztof Penderecki under the baton of the composer. The album with this song was nominated for the Fryderyk 2018 Award.

Jakub Haufa is also often invited as a guest concertmaster both in Poland and abroad, including National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Euskadi Orchestra in San Sebastian.

In current season of 2018/2019 will perform, among others as a guest concertmaster of such orchestras as the Malta Philharmonic, KBS Symphony Orchestra in Seoul. He will also perform as a soloist and chamber musician, including with such musicians as Daniel Hope (during the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival), Radovan Vlatkovic (during the Seoul International Music Festival)

He plays the violin “Stephan von Baehr Paris 2010”.
