Jack Kaspszyk is a graduate of the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw (1975) and 3rd prize winner in the prestigious Herbert von Karajan Conducting Competition in Berlin. He conducted some of the best orchestras in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Wiener Symphoniker, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Cincinnati Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
Kapszyk is also an active opera conductor. In 1976 he became the guest conductor of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and later worked with the English National Opera, Opera North in Leeds, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Opéra Comique in Paris, Operas in Lyon, Bordeaux, Zurich, Stockholm, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In 1998 Kaspszyk took on the position of artistic and music director and in 2002 also the general director of the Teatr Wielki – National Opera in Warsaw. In 2006–2008 he regularly worked together with the Lithuanian National Opera, with which he performed at festivals in Ljubljana, Ravenna and Tel Aviv.
In 2011 Kaspszyk received the prestigious Elgar Medal. For the past several years he has been a regular guest at the Lugano Festival at a special invitation of Martha Argerich.
He has worked together with the National Radio Symphony Orchestra since the beginning of his career, becoming its 1st conductor in 1978 and its music director two years later. In 2009–2012 he was the orchestra’s music director.
From 2006 to 2013 Kaspszyk was the artistic director of the Witold Lutosławski Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Wrocław.
On 1 September 2013 Jacek Kaspszyk took on the function of artistic director of the National Philharmonic, conducting the first ever concerts transmitted on-line. In May 2015 he embarked with the Orchestra on a concert tour of Great Britain, enthusiastically received by British music critics.
Jacek Kaspszyk has recorded many albums and his CD Accord recording of Szymanowski’s “King Roger”with the ensembles of Teatr Wielki – National Opera was nominated for recording of the year by the BBC Music Magazine.
