Etsuko Hirose

Etsuko HiroseEtsuko Hirose was born in Nagoya, Japan. She studied in the École Normale de Musique in Paris with Germaine Mounier, and then in the Paris Conservatory with Bruno Rigutto, Nicholas Angelich and Christian Ivaldi in the chamber music class. Etsuko graduated from the Conservatory with 1st prize in the piano class, at the same time winning in renowned international competitions, such as the Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Moscow, the Viotti competition in Italy, the ARD competition in Munich and in the prestigious Martha Argerich International Piano Competition. These successful endeavours opened the door to an international career.

The artist is regularly invited to perform in prestigious concert halls around the world – the Herkulessaal in Munich, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. She has performed with leading orchestras, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra. She has played under the direction of, among others, Charles Dutoit, Marcello Viotti, Fayçal Karoui, Dmitri Liss and Jacek Kaspszyk. Etsuko Hirose has also been applauded at many festivals, including La Roque d’Anthéron, La Folle Journée in Tokyo, Bilbao and  Warsaw, at the Lisztomanias in Châteauroux and at the Fryderyk Chopin Festival in the Bagatelle Park in Paris.

Etsuko Hirose is a regular guest at Martha Argerich Festivals in Japan, Taiwan and in Italy, performing in the company of such distinguished musicians as Mischa Maisky, Henri Demarquette, Éric Maria Couturier, Tatiana Vassilieva, Fanny Clamagirand, Nicolas Dautricourt and Romain Guyot. Etsuko Hirose recorded four albums for Denon and three for Mirare. These include a Chopin recital, concertos by Liszt and Schumann recorded with the Orchestre de Pau Pays de Béarn and an album of works by Balakiriev. The pianist’s latest album, titled Études d’exécution transcendante contains works by Sergei Lyapunov. It was released in the spring of 2018 on the Mirare label.
